No need to search in any haystacks, Cleopatra’s needle is a landmark Egyptian obelisk standing proudly on the bank of the Thames. Brought to London in Victorian Times, it is 3,500 years old and actually has very little to do with Cleopatra. But ‘Pharaoh Thotmes III’s needle’ is rather a mouthful. The history of the needle and how it came to be here is fascinating. Did you know there are more in New York and Paris too?
