History hounds will love sniffing out this hidden relic of London’s eccentric past. The discovery of a ‘Roman’ bath under a lane off The Strand thrilled Victorian Londoners, who were enthusiastically taken in by the owner’s claims of rare antiquity. Historians now believe it dates from Stuart times and, almost forgotten, it is visible only through a basement window down an obscure alley. The fun is in the quest to discover a little known part of London’s story.
