London Docklands Singers: Perform Handel’s Messiah
London Docklands Singers’ autumn concert is at St Clement Danes, Strand. LDS Musical Director, Andrew Campling, will be conducting the 60-strong choir, along with the Marcel Sinfonia in a performance of George Frederick Handel’s magnificent oratorio Messiah.
Composed in 1741, Messiah was first performed in Dublin in April 1742, before receiving its London premiere the following year. After an initially modest public reception, the oratorio steadily gained in popularity to become one of the best-known choral works in Western music including, among its many wonderful arias and choruses, the Hallelujah Chorus.
The choir will be accompanied by soloists Elizabeth Rodger, Saran Ping, Paul Martyn West and Meurig Davies. Do join us for a special occasion in the fine setting of St Clement Danes, Strand.
Set up in 1992, the London Docklands Singers welcomes new members! We practice every Monday evening (19.45) at Christ Church, Manchester Road, Isle of Dogs (5 minutes walk from DLR Island Gardens). The choir is led by conductor/composer Andrew Campling and performs 3-4 concerts a year at venues across East and Central London.
