Placemaking

From transformational street improvements to air quality initiatives, these are the projects that are important locally and to the rest of London.

A Northbank Public Realm Study & Vision identified over 100 project areas to improve, from lighting schemes to the major highway transformation of Strand/Aldwych. Air quality and its impact on the area has also played a vital role in the vision for the future.

For each possible improvement, it has been vital to collaborate closely with Westminster City Council, the GLA, TfL, asset and building managers, and the occupying businesses.

Each project aims to bring improvements that will help make the local area more pleasant for customers and staff, as well as helping businesses to gain through increased footfall and reduced emissions.

and is continuing activities for re-planning deliveries and servicing, awareness raising campaigns, promoting walking and cycling and enhancing clean air walking routes and more.

We need your help to increase the overall impact.

Placemaking

The Northbank is one of the most culturally significant places in London; from Aldwych to the Strand and Trafalgar Square, it is a key priority for the BID to enhance the area to complement the surrounding cultural destinations and world-famous hoteliers and hospitality.

The BID is currently involved in various placemaking projects, which all aim to continue to make The Northbank and central London, a world-class destination.

Other Major Public Realm Improvements

Villiers Street: a vision is being developed with Westminster City Council to enhance the character of the street.

Strand & West Area: this is the next focus for the BIDs Public Realm work, bringing a renewed strategy to the area.

The river: identified in the Westminster City Plan as a future Riverside Cultural Quarter, the BID will be developing a plan with Westminster City Council to enhance the access to, and opportunities on, the riverside.
