A Message from Ruth Duston OBE, OC

I am thrilled to share that the Northbank BID, in partnership with Westminster City Council, has scooped ‘The Mayor’s Award for Good Growth’ for the transformational Strand Aldwych scheme. The Business LDN Planning Awards were held last night and the team were delighted to scoop the major award of the night, along with the award for ‘Best Heritage or Culture Project’ and a commendation for ‘Best Project for Sustainable Planning’.

This incredible result reflects years of hard work by the Northbank team, the dedication of Westminster City Council and a large number of committed partners who believed in our shared vision for the area, and the opportunity that could be unlocked by taking it forward. I believe it is through this close collaborative working that projects of this scale and impact are able to be delivered so quickly and so successfully. LDA’s understanding of the location and sensitive design has created a safer, pedestrianised public space, a new creative hub for our capital and a backdrop for world-class events. The space has been opened up for workers, visitors, residents and future generations to enjoy.

This recognition continues to demonstrate how BIDs and the private sector can be true catalysts for change. Proposals driven by BIDs, followed by close working and open dialogue between partners allow the space for these projects to take shape and be delivered positively. I am delighted so many are recognising the quality of the scheme and look forward to working on many future projects with Westminster City Council and our partners.
